Generate a clearance test for your 3D printer.

Build an FDM or resin fit test with six clearance values for round pins, square keys, dovetails, or real magnet pockets. Everything runs locally. Your file is not uploaded, and no account is required.

Clearance is the total size difference, not the gap on each side.

Label depth0.50 mm
Test card labels Optional

Labels appear only in the test card and never change geometry.

Ready to generate locally

Six known clearances. One controlled print.

Choose the process and connector, then generate a manifold artifact without uploading a model or sending geometry anywhere.

Runs locally in your browser. Your model is not uploaded, stored, or included in analytics.

How it works

Calibrate one physical workflow in three controlled steps.

  1. 01
    Define the test

Choose FDM or resin, a connector geometry, its nominal size, and exactly six total clearances.

  2. 02
    Generate and verify

Manifold WASM constructs the solids locally and checks topology, volume, bounds, and triangle integrity.

  3. 03
    Print and record

Download STL or 3MF, keep the orientation flat, and write down the smallest comfortable and preferred reusable fits.

Measured artifact

What this tool controls.

  • One changing variableThe six female positions change by their labeled total clearance; printed male gauges remain nominal and identical.
  • Four real geometriesRound insertion, a radiused square key, a 60° sliding dovetail, or pockets tested with your actual magnet.
  • Known outputMillimeter units, fixed XY layout, recessed labels, flat Z=0 orientation, and validated manifold bodies.

Method limit

What one print does not prove.

  • No universal valueChanging material, profile, orientation, nozzle, exposure, compensation, or connector shape can change the result.
  • No strength claimA comfortable fit says nothing about load, fatigue, wall thickness, adhesive behavior, or safe extraction.
  • No printer diagnosisThe artifact records dimensional behavior; it does not identify the mechanical reason for an inaccurate print.

Artifact specification

Each label shows the total difference between mating features.

The round hole diameter equals the nominal pin diameter plus the displayed clearance. The square slot width equals the nominal key width plus the displayed clearance. The magnet pocket diameter equals the nominal magnet diameter plus the displayed clearance. The female dovetail profile receives the displayed total width difference across corresponding sections. Generation remains disabled unless every configuration retains at least 3.00 mm of solid material between neighboring cutouts and along the plate boundary.

Questions

Use the result as evidence for a specific print.

What does clearance mean in this test?

Each number is the total diametral or width difference between the nominal male feature and its female feature. A 6.00 mm pin with 0.20 mm clearance uses a 6.20 mm hole; it does not add 0.20 mm on each side.

Which clearance should I choose after printing?

Record the smallest fit that assembles without force and the fit you prefer for repeated use. There is no universal correct value. The result belongs to that printer, material, layer height, orientation, slicer profile, and connector shape.

Does the magnet test print a matching pin?

No. Magnet pocket mode creates six pockets that you test with your real magnet before applying adhesive. It measures dimensional pocket fit only, not holding force, polarity, adhesive gap, or extraction safety.

Why are there separate FDM and resin presets?

The presets cover useful starting ranges at different increments. They are not predictions. You can enter six ascending custom values from 0.00 to 0.80 mm when your process needs another range.

Are the generated files uploaded or stored?

No. The geometry engine, validation, 3D preview preparation, STL export, and 3MF packaging run in your browser. The optional printer and material labels appear only on the test card and are not saved.

Does a passing geometry check guarantee a successful print?

No. It proves named digital checks such as finite vertices, closed manifold edges, positive volume, and flat placement. It cannot prove extrusion calibration, exposure, shrinkage, elephant foot, supports, strength, or a comfortable physical fit.
